IMPACT’s Terry Richardson, PharmD, BCACP and Steve Casebeer, MBA along with Regeneron’s Samantha Lansdowne, MSJ, MBA presented results from a September 2024 virtual roundtable convened with chief medical and pharmacy officers, senior health care executives, and a retinal specialist to uncover evidence-based needs and catalyze high-impact changes in the management of retinal disease for people with diabetes. This session showcased how collaborative stakeholder education can strategically drive system-level change when aligned with the evolving healthcare landscape and stakeholder priorities. Drawing on a 2024 program focused on retinal disease management in patients with diabetes, attendees explored how payer and provider collaboration—sparked by education—led to measurable population health improvements.

Through polling, peer exchange, and post-event interviews, the program identified actionable needs related to timely treatment access, social determinants of health, and care variability. These insights informed follow-on initiatives, including a retina-focused MSSP bonus model, a pharmacist-driven retinal dashboard in an ACO, implementation of transportation benefits expected to improve adherence and total cost of care outcomes, and an in-home screening program tied to STAR/HEDIS measure performance.

Attendees gained a framework for building collaborative, needs-based education that keeps pace with regulatory shifts, fosters strategic alignment across stakeholders, and demonstrates true clinical and operational impact.
