Dr. Stevenson received his BS in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from Wayne State University. He served as Director of Pharmacy Services and then Chief Pharmacy Officer in the University of Michigan Health System and as Associate Dean for Clinical Sciences at the College of Pharmacy From 1999-2014. He also was Chair of the Department of Clinical, Social, and Administrative Sciences from 2011-2014. In 2014 he assumed the position of President of Visante, Inc., a medicines management consulting company. In January 2018 he joined Omnicell as VP, Medication Systems Strategy and is responsible for shaping development of future products and services as well as participating in Merger and Acquisition (M&A) activities.

 

Before joining the University of Michigan Health System, Dr. Stevenson served as Director of Pharmacy Services at West Virginia University Hospitals and Detroit Receiving Hospital and University Health Center and as Executive Director of Pharmacy Services for the eight-hospital Detroit Medical Center. His previous academic appointments were at West Virginia University and Wayne State University, where he served as the Director of the Graduate Program in Health System Pharmacy Management.

 

Dr. Stevenson has given many invited presentations in the U.S. and abroad, and he has over 90 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. He has also received numerous awards and recognitions for his service and accomplishments. Dr. Stevenson is a fellow of ASHP, and he is widely recognized as a leader in pharmacy. He was named Pharmacist of the Year by both the Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Michigan Pharmacists Association. He received the 2015 Excellence in Innovation Award from the Michigan Pharmacists Association for a state-wide patient safety initiative. In 2009 and 2017, he received the ASHP Research and Education Foundation’s Pharmacy Practice Research Award for the Outstanding Contribution to the Research Literature Related to Pharmacy Practice in Health Systems. In addition, he was honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award by Wayne State University College of Pharmacy and the Joseph Oddis Leadership Award by Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

 

Dr. Stevenson served on the ASHP Board of Directors and is currently Treasurer of the Hospital Pharmacy Section of International Pharmaceutical Federation. He received the 2010 John W. Webb Lecture Award for extraordinary dedication to fostering excellence in pharmacy management, as well as the 2013 ASHP Award for Distinguished Leadership in Health-System Pharmacy Practice. He was appointed to the Michigan Board of Pharmacy in July 2012.
