  Who Should Attend?

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of managed care pharmacy directors, clinical pharmacists, quality directors, medical directors, members of the AMCP, and other managed health care professionals attending AMCP Nexus 2018.

  Statement of Need/Program Overview

A cure for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) remains elusive, but effective drugs are available to manage symptoms and minimize disease progression. In addition to medications, regular performance of self-management techniques, including physical activity, are known to reduce pain and disability. RA treatment goals include controlling pain and inflammation, achieving the lowest disease activity, and ultimately, remission. This symposium highlights opportunities for managed care and specialty pharmacy professionals to optimize the management of patients with RA by implementing and/or recommending evidence-based practice recommendations based on current clinical trial data.

  Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to demonstrate improved ability to:
  • Review recent insights into the pathophysiology of RA and emerging treatment strategies
  • Discuss the safety, efficacy, and attributes of emerging therapies
  • Align managed care RA treatment algorithms with recent clinical trial data
  • Employ specialty pharmacy and disease management services for RA patients
  • Describe care pathways and their application as a cost management tool in RA
