Biography
Mona Chitre, PharmD, CGP

Dr. Mona Chitre is the Director of Clinical Services, Strategy, and Policy for FLRx Pharmacy Management at Excellus Health Plans. Excellus Health Plans is the umbrella organization for all of the Excellus BlueCross BlueShield plans as well as Univera Healthcare. Excellus provides care for over 2 million patients in Western New York.

Dr. Chitre is primarily responsible for the strategy, development, and maintenance of four formularies, injectable drug and oncology management program, clinical education programs, and the Medication Therapy Management Program. She heads up all clinical and programmatic elements within FLRx, which include provider and patient education programs, integration of medical specialty drugs, and integration of pharmacy management with other divisions within the health plan. Dr. Chitre has co-authored a number of community-wide guidelines and has helped to implement various system-wide initiatives.

Dr. Chitre completed her undergraduate and graduate training from Rutgers University and her post-doctoral primary care residency from the VA Hospital in Buffalo, NY. She also has received her certification in geriatric pharmacy by the Commission for the Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy. She is a registered pharmacist in both New York and New Jersey. Dr. Chitre is currently an assistant clinical professor at the University of Buffalo and Albany College of Pharmacy, and St. John Fisher Wegmans School of Pharmacy.

Dr. Chitre has been published in over 20 articles that range from diabetes, infectious disease, heart failure, managed care, and medication therapy management. Additionally, she has presented at numerous pharmacy and managed care forums. She is a sought after speaker on issues of biologics, oncology, and medical drug programs. She serves as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy and for Managed Care Interface. She is an active member of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy and the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists.
