Manuel D. Cerqueira, MD, is an internationally recognized thought leader,  educator, and researcher in the fields of cardiology and nuclear medicine. He  is currently at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation where he is Chairman of Nuclear  Medicine in the Imaging Institute, a Staff Cardiologist in the Heart and  Vascular Institute, and Professor of Radiology and Medicine at the Cleveland  Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He was  formerly at Georgetown University Medical Center, where he was Chief of  Cardiology, and at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle,  Washington.
 
A native of Portugal, Dr. Cerqueira earned his medical degree from New York University  School of Medicine. He trained in Internal Medicine at Bellevue Medical Center,  New York City, and in Cardiology and Nuclear Medicine at Yale University, New  Haven, Connecticut. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Nuclear  Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Nuclear Cardiology, and Cardiovascular CT.
 
As an educator, Dr. Cerqueira has lectured on all aspects of cardiovascular care  throughout the United States, on six continents, and in major cities of the  world. He is a regularly invited speaker and organizer of symposia and  scientific meetings. His work has been recognized by his peers who selected him  for listing in the “Best Doctors in America” and as a lifetime member for  listing in Strathmore’s Who’s Who.
 
As a researcher and academician, Dr. Cerqueira has had continuous  grant funding for developmental research efforts in nuclear cardiology and the  operation of a Nuclear Cardiology Central Laboratory. His major research  efforts have focused on measuring the effects of various treatments for acute  myocardial infarction, the development of new perfusion and thrombus imaging  agents, and protocols and safety of pharmacologic stress testing. He has  authored or co-authored 170 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 28 book  chapters and has editorship of a textbook on Nuclear Cardiology.
 
He has worked closely as a consultant with industry in  the development of new imaging technologies and served as Chairman of the  Advisory Committee for the Medical Use of Isotopes of the Nuclear Regulatory  Commission, as a member of the Diagnostic Imaging Panel of the Medicare  Coverage Advisory Committee, and as the American College of Cardiology  representative to the Relative Value Update Committee (RUC) and the Practice  Expense Committee.
 
He is active in the  major cardiac professional medical societies, including the American College of  Cardiology, American Heart Association, and the Society of Nuclear Medicine. He  is a founding member and Former President of the American Society of Nuclear  Cardiology. He serves as a liaison between these professional medical societies  and Congress and the Health Care Finance Administration on healthcare policy. |
