David A. Schwartz, MD
Biography
   

David A. Schwartz, MD is a board certified gastroenterologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.  He also serves as the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Dr. Schwartz received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville. He received his postgraduate training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he completed a residency in Internal Medicine, a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and advanced fellowships in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Endoscopic Ultrasound. 

Dr. Schwartz's research has focused on clinical trials for inflammatory bowel disease, imaging of inflammatory bowel disease, and treatment of perianal Crohn's disease.  He has lectured extensively throughout the United States and has written more than 50 articles, book chapters, and abstracts.  Dr. Schwartz is a scientific reviewer for the American Journal of Gastroenterology, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Digestive Diseases and Science, Digestive and Liver Disease, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.

Dr. Schwartz is a member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, The American Gastroenterology Association, and the American College of Gastroenterology.  He has also served as a member of the National Scientific Advisory Committee for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, where he was a co-chair of the Professional Education Committee.
