  • Managed care-affiliated care team members involved with patient evaluation, education, and follow-up for hemophilia patients including: physicians, pharmacists, specialty pharmacists, and nurses

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The management of hemophilia is complex; however, appropriate management is vital to minimizing and/or preventing complications that can contribute to poor health outcomes and higher health care resource utilization. Thus, there is a need for continued education in several key areas involving the effective management of patients with hemophilia in a managed care setting. They emphasize the need for a well-coordinated patient management effort, the importance of understanding the most cost-effective ways of using available treatments, and importance of collaboration among all stakeholders, which includes leveraging the success of the comprehensive care model utilized by HTCs. This educational initiative is designed to address these needs in order to improve clinical, economic, and humanistic outcomes for patients with hemophilia.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
  • Describe recent insights into the safety, efficacy and attributes of recently approved and emerging hemophilia treatment options.
  • Review alignment of recently approved therapies in the current hemophilia treatment algorithm.
  • Explain hemophilia-related complications associated with inhibitor development and its significant clinical and economic consequences.
  • Apply processes for managed care organizations and specialty pharmacy providers to improve communications and collaborations with HTCs.
LEARNING GOAL/PURPOSE
This educational initiative is designed to improve managed care professionals' knowledge and competence in the management of pediatric and adult hemophilia patients in health plan, specialty pharmacy, and other types of managed care settings.
