Statement of Need/Program Overview
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) represents a key hematologic malignancy in managed care, with a relatively high prevalence among all leukemia types and significant associated morbidity and mortality. The rate of new AML cases has been rising on average 3.7% each year over the last 10 years: the highest incidence rate among all forms of leukemia. This educational activity will provide information on the clinical utility and benefits of emerging AML agents in contrast to traditionally available cytotoxic chemotherapeutics. Furthermore, managed care experts will review appropriate benefit design and utilization management strategies, in alignment with payer-led interventions such as clinical pathways, that can contribute to improved outcomes in AML.
