Who Should Attend?
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of pharmacists, physicians and other healthcare professionals attending the AMCP 25th Annual Meeting & Expo.

Statement of Need/Program Overview
Oncology is often characterized by small trials, phase 2 data, surrogate efficacy endpoints (i.e., depth of response, time to progression), and relatively little data regarding "hard" endpoints, such as overall survival (OS). The nature of cancer also creates unique implications for how comparative effectiveness research (CER) should be applied. Enhanced competency is needed regarding the structure and delivery of oncology benefit designs, including supportive care. This symposium will illustrate a systematic approach to evaluate, select, and implement specialty pharmacy benefit design and management services to improve access and outcomes to appropriate therapies for patients with cancers such as multiple myeloma.

Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
  • Review current and emerging clinical data to optimize therapeutic decision-making based on indicators of efficacy outcomes for MM treatments
  • Demonstrate the use of CER as a decision-support tool to appropriately invest resources and reduce treatment variability with MM therapies
  • Recommend methods to improve MM patient outcomes with supportive care within a health plan setting
  • Evaluate innovative oncology pharmacy benefit models and specialty management services
  • Provide accurate and appropriate counsel as part of the managed care treatment team
