  • Medical Directors and Pharmacy Directors from health plans, HMOs, integrated health systems, employers, quality organizations, and other managed care organizations (MCOs)
  • Managed care-affiliated care team members involved with patient evaluation, education, and follow-up for multiple sclerosis including: physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and case managers
STATEMENT OF NEED
Due to the large volume of patients they manage, managed care professionals are in an excellent position to improve outcomes for patients with MS. There is a documented need to provide the managed care community with insights from notable clinical and managed care experts regarding the treatment of patients with MS and the evolving role of managed care. The proposed educational program will include various discussions and interventions, as well as practical demonstrations, regarding current and emerging clinical data, benefit design, and management resources for managed care professionals to consider. Neurology and managed care thought leaders will evaluate and recommend innovative strategies that will increase knowledge and competence of the target audience as they strive to improve treatment outcomes for MS patients.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
  • Use knowledge of current and emerging clinical data to optimize therapeutic decision-making based on indicators of efficacy outcomes for MS treatments
  • Demonstrate the use of comparative effectiveness research as a decision-support tool to appropriately invest resources and reduce MS treatment variability
  • Implement strategies to design MS care benefits, reimbursement algorithms and specialty pharmacy management services to facilitate consensus regarding the treatment of patients with MS
  • Provide accurate and appropriate counsel as part of the managed care treatment team
  • Provide appropriate care and counsel for patients and their families
