Hot Topics Include: Clinical Updates in Hemophilia Treatment Mock Comprehensive Care Team Visit Featuring a Patient with Hemophilia Leveraging Collaborative Care Strategies and Resources within New Models of Care Who Should Attend? This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of managed care pharmacy directors, clinical pharmacists, quality directors, medical directors, members of the AMCP, and other managed health care professionals attending the AMCP 2014 Nexus meeting. Statement of Need/Program Overview Hemophilia is an expensive chronic condition with total annual costs that can average $250,000 or more for severe patients. Optimal outcomes requires a collaborative and coordinated patient experience. The collaborative team can include an insurer, Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC), and specialty pharmacy. Specialty pharmacy services can support patient adherence to treatment and assist physicians, plans and employers in meeting clinical and/or financial goals. This symposium, joint sponsored by the National Hemophilia Foundation, will emphasize the need for well-coordinated treatment management, the importance of understanding effective ways of using available treatments, and the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders. Educational Objectives After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to: Discuss the impact of hemophilia with and without inhibitors on clinical, economic, and humanistic outcomes Assess current and emerging hemophilia therapies for children and adults, with and without inhibitors Implement the Medical and Scientific Advisory Council (MASAC) Quality of Care Guidelines for the treatment of hemophilia Employ collaborative care strategies and resources, including Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs), to improve care coordination for health plan patients with hemophilia Recommend hemophilia management policies and protocols to optimize patient outcomes in a managed care and/or specialty pharmacy setting Provide accurate and appropriate counsel as part of the treatment team
